Leveling a Travel Trailer

Taking care to properly park and level your travel trailer will make it as enjoyable as possible to spend time inside. Follow our short guide below to help get your trailer as level as possible.
Set up for success
When you're pulling into your desired spot, identify where you want your trailer to sit, then back into place about two feet short of your final goal. Using a carpenter's level, measure the side to side angle of the trailer by laying the level across the front hitch. Identify the low side of the trailer.
Leveling side to side
Use a board approximately two feet wide, and long enough to accommodate your RV (depending on how many axles you're towing). Place the board behind the tires on the low side of the trailer and back into place. This may take some practice, as one board may not be quite enough. Check your level, and repeat the process until you're level side to side. Chock your tires on both sides before you unhitch your travel trailer.
Leveling front to back
Now that your trailer is level from side to side you'll need to balance it out from front to back. Start in the same place, using your level on the tow hitch parallel to the trailer body. Determine whether you're going to be raising or lowering the front of the travel trailer. Fortunately, your travel trailer's tongue jack will do all the work, just make small adjustments until your trailer is level back to front, then deploy your trailers stabilizer jacks to prevent shifting or bouncing.
